Top March Food & Drink Events
The skies are brighter, the birds are tweeting and there’s a definite spring in our step – we’re ready to skip to the nearest festivals this March. Celebrate the beginning of spring by getting stuck into this crop of delicious food festivals as they begin pop up like daffodils.
Kendal Festival of Food
12th- 13th March, Kendal
Kendal is arguably one of the most beautiful market towns the UK has to offer, and when you add this great event to the mix, it becomes a perfect foodie destination. There will be Champagne flowing, gin and whiskey tasting galore as well as a great beer festival – bottoms up guys!
NEW EVENT! Northern Spirit
Saturday 12th March, Kendal
As the evening draws in on the Kendal Festival of Food, Northern Spirit is where you will want to be from 7.30pm. With a few tipples in hand, enjoy the buzzing atmosphere in the air; the sounds of talented local musicians you may have never heard before, the smells of epicurean delights on offer and the fine whisky selection you can spy at the bar. Combine it all by trying one of the whisky and chocolate pairing classes – delicious!
London Drinker Beer and Cider Festival
2nd- 4th March, Camden, London
After 32 years this event has become a staple and it’s easy to see why, three words; pure, unequivocal beer! It’s a festival that “caters to conversation” and with over 150 ales, ciders, perries and beers from breweries around the world (and closer to home) – you will have a great selection to talk about with your fellow drinkers. You’re guaranteed a merry atmosphere at this festival!
Bitten Street at Oxford Castle
Saturday 5th March, Oxford
Bitten Oxford gained quite the reputation for its restaurant news; knowing where to eat out in the city and the latest quirky pop-ups. They are bringing all of that to Oxford Castle each month, with a different selection of sensational food traders handpicked from the local area and rest of the UK. Great street food in a castle – what more could you want!
World Pasty Championships
5th March, Eden Project, Cornwall
This event is epic, obviously takes place in Cornwall and at The Eden Project nonetheless. Surely you can already see yourself sampling the best pasties in the UK and watching professionals, amateurs and maybe your next door neighbour battling it out to create the very best version of this South West delicacy. There will be lots of music, comedy, entertainment and the whole of Eden project, in case you need any more amusement.
Urban Food Fest
Saturday 5th March, Shoreditch, London
We have eagerly awaited the return of Urban Food Fest for 2016 and welcome it back with open arms and hungry bellies. Every Saturday it will be a firm favourite on the Shoreditch High Street for foodies who want to discover something a little different whether it’s craft beers, street food or music. Now you can enjoy your three meals a day there as it’s open from noon all the way to midnight!
The Legenderry Food Festival
19th-20th March, Derry
With puns like that, the hilarious chef parody of Magella Lousing will go down a treat at this event. In case you haven’t guessed it, Derry will be the venue for the food festival and in the stunning Guildhall Square where there will be local chefs, great bargains, food and gifts stalls and children’s activities galore!
Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival "Easter Weekender"
25-27th March, Brighton
It doesn’t get any more egg-citing than this Easter festival. Foodies will be besides themselves with the Food Trail planned for Monday – on your marks get set, go at The Salt Room as your gastronomic journey takes you around the restaurants of Brighton and ends at the cheesy heaven that is La cave a Fromage. It all kicks off with the Big Sussex Market on the weekend and there’s a mammoth Easter egg hunt for the kids too.
Feast East At Audley End
5-6th March, Saffron Walden, Essex
Jean-Christophe Novelli - need I say more? In the heart of the Essex countryside he will be demonstrating his expert skills in the kitchen in the grounds of the grand Jacobean Audley End House. Add to this a throng of artisan food and drink stalls and you’ve got yourself a fabulous food filled weekend.
Great Missenden Easter Food Festival
25 -28th March, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire
Don’t miss the foraging at this event, it’s free and a great opportunity to try something new if you haven’t done it before.Besides that there is just so much food! Especially of the BBQ variety as the Broil King pop-up restaurant will be demonstrating. You have to taste one of their delicious Ox cheek burgers! There are lots for kids to do and masterclasses for budding chefs to get involved with too.
The Chocolate Festival Bristol
26-17th March, Bristol Harbourside
It is what is says on the tin and so much more. Where else will you find a scale model of the SS Great Britain made out of chocolate? Thats what happened last year so just imagine what we can expect in 2016. Tonnes of chocolate in a city full of incredible and creative people anything could happen. One thing’s for sure you can ogle at and eat more chocolate than ever before!
