Unusual advent calendars to get you feeling festive

A whole bunch of world premier advent calendars seem to be hitting the shelves this November. Everything from gin to pork scratchings to Yankee Candles are getting involved in the advent calendar hype, and we've found the best and most affordable of the bunch. We think most of these will sell out pretty quickly, so don't hang around!

Wine advent calendar, Aldi 

Aldi are launching their first wine advent calendar today, 14th November. They’re expected to sell out fast so get to your local shop as soon as is humanly possible if you know someone who would love one! Each day will bring a new mini bottle of well-known wine from around the world including red, white, rosé and fizz. Yours for £49.99, highlights include the Calvet Limited Edition Merlot and more, it’s the ultimate boozie prezzie.

Cheese advent calendar, ASDA 

Huzzah! A cheese advent calendar is hitting the shelves of ASDA this week. For just £8, the calendar will feature 24 different varieties, including Applewood, Mexicana and Ilchester Wensleydale with cranberries. Believe it or not, it's the world’s first, designed by Annem from So Wrong It's Nom. “For years, chocolate has dominated key retail periods, and as a huge lover of cheese I want to turn this on its head. Gin advent calendar, The Pip Stop 

The John Lewis gin advent calendar has already sold out, but if you’re still looking for an indulgent Christmas countdown for a gin fanatic, never fear! The Pip Stop have you covered. At £99, it doesn’t come cheap, but you’ll get a whole bottle of the Lakes Gin at the start of the month and a bottle of tonic every day leading up to Christmas. Baubles full of gin are also available for extra-special stocking fillers.

Craft beer advent calendar, Iceland 

The Pip Stop also sells beer advent calendars, but you can get one much cheaper from Iceland. Treat those beer lovers in your life to something out of the ordinary! At £39 it’s a little more than its chocolate counterpart, but for 24 bottles of craft beer it works out at around £1.66 per bottle which is very reasonable indeed. Let the countdown to a Hoppy Christmas begin!

Pringles advent calendar, B&M 

More of a savoury person? This new Pringles calendar from B&M will get you buzzing for Christmas without the sugar crash. A tub of Pringles will be waiting behind every door for the 12 days of Christmas. Just beware - you know what they say; once you pop, you can’t stop… Don’t eat the whole thing at once!

Yankee Candle advent calendar

Another world first for the humble advent calendar is brought to you by the Naked Marshmallow Co for £13. Each day you’ll get an intriguing festive handmade flavour, including the likes of s’mores, candy cane and gingerbread. The design on the cover might give you some ideas, but we’re definitely not suggesting you play with fire… 

Pork scratchings advent calendar  

Yes, you heard that right. Pork scratchings might not be the first thing that pops into your head when you think of the festive season, but this carnivorous calendar suits meat-lovers down to the ground. It comes in three designs and a range of flavours will be waiting behind the oversized doors, brought to you by Snaffling Pig for £17.50.
