A county home to spectacular countryside, pretty villages and the Roman city of Bath, Somerset has a reputation as a foodie destination that's growing year upon year. The birthplace of one of the UK’s best exports, Cheddar, and home to Yeo Valley dairy farm, Butcombe Brewery and Thatcher’s Cider, Somerset is food-and-drink-famous for all the right reasons.
The beautiful Mendip Hills, Exmoor National Park, Quantocks and the Somerset Levels punctuate the landscape, hiding in their folds and flats some fantastic pubs and restaurants. Chew Magna – the UK’s ‘Best Village in Britain’ to live in, according to The Sunday Times – is home to Josh Eggleton’s Michelin-starred Pony & Trap, while nearby Bath, with its Thermae Spa, Jane Austen Centre and Roman Baths, is where you’ll find Sam Moody cooking up a storm at the Bath Priory.
Outside the city, there are treats in store at the Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay and The Pig Near Bath, to name but two. Still on the food front, but celebrating from whence it came, the annual Royal Bath and West Show tells of the region’s rich farming life and dedication to rearing, cultivating, breeding and growing.
